Via Rail is Canada's premier rail service. It offers armchair type seating in roomy comfortable cars with large windows so you can enjoy the changing scenery as you travel between cities. In Toronto's Union Station you can catch trains to Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, London and Windsor, Niagara Falls and New York City, Sarnia and Chicago, and intermediate points. Trains to New York and Chicago are operated jointly with Amtrak. Three times a week trains run between Toronto and Vancouver, including intermediate points. The ticket wickets are on the main floor as you enter union Station, as is the information desk and the oversized information board. Red Caps are available to assist you but there never seems to be enough on hand. Baggage checking is only available on some of the trains. If you have a preference regarding your seating it is best to arrive at least an hour early, as the queues are generally long. Getting to the loading platform requires climbing up a flight of stairs so if you need assistance check with the information desk or the clerk in the first class lounge when you arrive. If you are traveling first class, the Panorama Lounge is off to the right about half way down the departure hall.
